The 2008 David Thompson Brigade Reaches Fort William
Though not the first or the only great trader-explorer on the continent, David Thompson explored and mapped more of this continent than any other trader and mapmaker and is arguably, the greatest of all North American land geographers. David Thompson Bicentennials (2007 to 2011) will recognize the anniversaries of some of Thompson's greatest achievements that took place in his life between 1807 and 1811.
The 2008 David Thompson Brigade was the largest and most significant event in 2008 commemorating David Thompson; more specifically, his return journey in 1808, after spending the winter on the western side of the Rocky Mountains at Kootenae House (near Invermere, BC).
Andreas (Andy) Korsos was the Chairman and President of the 2008 David Thompson Brigade. The event itself featured 16 replica voyageur north canoes, paddled by voyageurs dressed period specific, that departed from Rocky Mountain House Alberta on May 10, 2008 and arrived on July 12, 2008.
