David Thompson in Central North America 1785-1812
Saskatchewan, Manitoba, northwestern Ontario
Dimensions: 111 x 99 cm (43 x 39 in) ISBN 978-0-9783707-2-5

David Thompson first came to Canada in 1784 and by 1812, had explored and travelled in excess of 107,000 Km (65, 000 mi) and mapped over 3.9 million square kilometres. Though not the first or the only great trader-explorer on the continent, David Thompson explored and mapped more of this continent than any other trader and mapmaker. Arguably, the greatest North American land geographer, Thompson was also a naturalist, trader and an extremely keen observer of his environment.

Within the maps are the routes that Thompson traveled along throughout his career while within Saskatchewan, Manitoba and north-western Ontario. Not only are the routes displayed, but they are also described in a straightforward manner so that one can easily follow his journeys down each route. The overall map is the most comprehensive visual description of David Thompson’s movements in central North America ever done and has been endorsed by the David Thompson Bicentennials Partnership. Each map is 111cm by 90cm and would suit classrooms, libraries, or museum shops perfectly. This map is very well-suited for classrooms, libraries, museum shops, and other professional organizations or as a complimentary addition to any map hobbyist’s private collection.
