Posts and Forts of the Canadian Fur Trade 1600-1870
Dimensions: 106 x 66 cm (41.75 x 26 in) ISBN 978-0-9783707-3-2

From the year 1600 to 1870 (what is generally considered the end of the fur trade era) hundreds of posts and forts were established through out North America. Cartographer, Andreas (Andy) N Korsos has compiled the names, geographic locations and the ownership of over 1700 of these sites. From his extensive fur trade GIS, he has extracted those with verified location that were in Canada and the northern United States and that were involved in the Canadian Fur Trade.

Those sites that are considered as having a verified location are colour coded to display ownership and the name and first year of operation is also displayed with each site. The companies and nationalities within this map are those of the French, Hudson's Bay Company, North West Company, Missouri Fur Company, Columbia Fur Company, Pacific Fur Company, American Fur Company, Rocky Mountain Fur Company, and Union Fur Company. The posts and forts of American and Canadian independent traders are also shown.
