At first glance, not much is known of the travels of Charlotte Small Thompson, the life-long companion of David Thompson. However, given Thompson's own journeys, related journal entries and documents, and the witness of whereabouts provided by other notable persons of the day, a record of travel does emerge. This remarkable woman potentially traveled in excess of 42,000 Km (27,000 mi) in the same manner as her husband; that being by canoe, foot and horseback.

To commemorate one of Canada&'s most significant woman, Arcturus Consulting is distributing the thematic map entitled ‘Moccasin Miles – The Travels of Charlotte Small 1799-1812’. The overall map is based on the research of S. Leanne Playter and is the most comprehensive visual description of Charlotte Small’s travels ever done. It has been endorsed by the David Thompson Bicentennials Partnership and was also utilized by Professor Jennifer SH Brown in her submission to recognize Charlotte Small as a person of historical significance by the Government of Canada.
